New PS3 Firmware Stops Jailbreak Exploit

New PS3 Firmware Stops Jailbreak Exploit

None

If you’ve been following the plethora of stories about the PS3 Jailbreak recently, you know that Sony has been having a problem with hackers attempting to exploit the PS3 as of late. It should then come as no surprise that a new firmware has been readied and released for the system that will be attempting to plug the holes that these hackers have been exploiting. On the PlayStation blog, Sony’s director of hardware marketing announced the new v3.42 firmware and stated that it includes “additional security features.”

So far, the firmware appears to be working, according to Digital Foundry’s Rich Leadbetter (via Eurogamer). Leadbetter states “Yes, people have tried it and the Jailbreak no longer works.” However, the problem isn’t entirely resolved yet, as he continues by saying “3.42 is the only way to access PSN, so in Sony’s world you have to upgrade. However, for now it looks like people who have the Jailbreak are sticking to 3.41 and using a proxy server bypass to remain online.”
