New Wii U System-Update Allows Wii Games to Be Played on Gamepad

New Wii U System-Update Allows Wii Games to Be Played on Gamepad

The newest update for the Nintendo Wii U will allows players to output sound and video to the Wii U GamePad while in Wii Mode. Essentially, this allows people to play classic Wii titles on the GamePad screen alone, or perhaps on the TV and GamePad in tandem. Unfortunately, playing a Wii game on the GamePad screen won’t utilize the GamePad buttons. Instead, you will need to use a Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus. It’s not quite as portable as most gamers would like it to be, but it’s something.

In addition to the new GamePad functionality, the latest update will allow users to automatically download new demos of recommended software through SpotPass. It also adds a new friend-list icon to the Wii U menu, adds support for Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound, adds lots of functionality to the Wii U Internet browser, and integrates support for USB keyboards. Finally, and perhaps most interestingly, it allows you to toggle whether or not you want your Nintendo ID to be accessible through external devices like a Smartphone or PC. It’s an interesting method of identity protection for those of us who want to keep our gaming to consoles only.
