Nintendo’s Next Mobile Games Free-to-Play

Nintendo’s Next Mobile Games Free-to-Play

DeNA executive Isao Moriyasu confirmed in a Wall Street Journal interview that Nintendo’s next two mobile games, based on the Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem series, will be free-to-play games. He also hinted, of course, that there will be in-game transactions. Both of these games will be available this fall, and both of them are actually games, not apps or social platforms like Miitomo . Like Miitomo, though, you can expect to see both of these titles on iOS and Android.

That’s all that we know for sure, and I wanted to get that out of the way as soon as possible because people are sure to over-speculate on this bit. Let’s try to use our imaginations for good and not evil, and give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt. I’m sure you won’t have to pay a dollar for your shovel in Animal Crossing , and Nintendo won’t charge us every time we want to upgrade a unit in Fire Emblem . While I was rather hoping for a one-time purchase up front, I remain hopeful that we’ll still be able to pay a flat fee to enjoy the full games. We’ll have to wait until the next Direct for more info, though. Hopefully that comes sooner than later.
