Nintendo’s Surprise Announcement

Nintendo’s Surprise Announcement

None

Nintendo held an hour-long 3DS conference last night, and sadly no new games were announced and no major news was imparted, with the company content to show off gameplay for already-announced games such as Paper Mario: Sticker Star and New Super Mario Brothers 2. As Twitter exploded with the comments of disgruntled journalists who felt their time had been wasted (they could play the games on the show floor themselves, after all,) a small group decided to have a chat with Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.

Though we don’t know exactly how that conversation progressed, at some point Fils-Aime let slip the fact that Fire Emblem: Awakening for the 3DS will be released in North America. Fire Emblem is a tactical role-playing series that has a devoted cult following in the West, so this news was very welcome. We don’t know why Nintendo chose to sit on this information rather than openly reveal it at E3, but that’s at least one more solid “core” game for us to look forward to on the 3DS.
