Nostalrius Team to Meet With Blizzard Over Legacy Servers

Nostalrius Team to Meet With Blizzard Over Legacy Servers

“The last few weeks have been full of exciting events that we did not anticipate,” Nostalrius admin Daemon said in a community forum update . “We saw the first official answer from J. Allen Brack on the topic of legacy servers, the petition reached 250,000 signatures, and we are currently scheduling a meeting at Blizzard campus!” If World of Warcraft was ever a big part of your life then you already know why Daemon is so excited. For those of you not in the know, Nostalrius was the largest, private, “vanilla” WoW server in the world, which hosted hundreds of thousands of players looking for the classic WoW experience that we all know and miss. Blizzard shut the server down, with Brack stating that the move was necessary to “protect against intellectual property infringement.”

So that was a buzzkill. What’s encouraging, though, is that Brack also mentioned that vanilla servers were a topic of conversation at Blizzard. “From active internal team discussions to after-hours meetings with leadership, this subject has been highly debated.” The fact that Daemon and the Nostalrius team are meeting with Blizzard seems like a good sign. With over a quarter-million signatures on their petition, which is still growing, hopefully they’re able to persuade leadership at Blizzard that this would be a viable source of extra revenue. I myself haven’t played World of Warcraft since The Burning Crusade , but I would absolutely jump back in to a populated vanilla server if given the chance. What about you guys?
