Oculus Currently Working on Motion Controllers

Oculus VR has begun developing its own motion controllers for use with the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. This changes up quite a few things in Oculus VR development. Before this announcement, the Oculus had to be used with some sort of third party motion controller. As a result, several Kickstarters were made for motion control accessories. Heck, even the Wiimote was hacked and used as a peripheral for Oculus control.

Now that Oculus has their own motion controllers, it’s not entirely sure what this means for third party controller support. Even if third party controller support remains a feature, most gamers tend to choose first party controllers only when buying new controllers for a system. The controllers, though not mocked up yet, would allow people to control their character in the gamespace by moving their hands and body. While it’s not clear what sort of controller it will be, Oculus did acquire the company responsible for making the original Kinect. A camera like that would allow gamers to have a truly hand’s free experience… as long as they don’t want into their TV that is.
