Oculus Rift Alternative Being Kickstarted

Oculus Rift Alternative Being Kickstarted

The Oculus Rift isn’t the only VR headset in town. No we aren’t talking about Project Morpheus. No we aren’t talking about that Samsung visor you put your smartphone in. No we aren’t talking about Google’s cardboard box VR thing. We are talking about a brand new headset called Totem, a project being launched and Kickstarted by Vrvana.

So what makes Totem so much different than the Oculus Rift? Well, this VR headset has a 1080p OLED screen, which should get rid of the “screen door effect” that many VR headsets have. In addition, the visor has two onboard cameras on the outside. This not only allows you to see the outside world, but through a process called “reverse AR” it also allows you to look at your own body in the VR world. So, for example, if you stick out your hand in front of yourself, you will see your character’s hand move the way you would.

The headset is being kickstarted for over $300,000 on Kickstarter. Check it out if you think you might want to donate.
