Oculus Says VR May Be Best Used For Films

For a while, we have all been looking to virtual reality to provide us the next big experience. But according to Oculus, the company behind the Oculus Rift, VR might have serious applications elsewhere.

Recently, Oculus VR’s vice president for product Nate Mitchell said in an interview with the L.A. Times, “We’ve said from the beginning we’re big gamers, and we started Oculus to deliver consumer VR and revolutionize games, but it may well end up being that VR is more about film than games. We don’t know what the killer app is.”

VR movies would essentially be the next step up from our current 3D movie technology. They would be filmed in 360 degrees, essentially, and would have multiple sound tracks with multiple levels. That way, sound would adjust itself as the headset wearer shifted his view in his seat. However, for now this is all just theory. No one has made a working 3D movie prototype.

What do you think? Would you go see a VR movie? Let us know in the comments.
