Over 6.4 Million Participated in The Division Beta

The open beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division concluded yesterday, and as Ubisoft wrapped things up it had some pretty staggering numbers to report. Over 6.4 million players participated in the beta across all platforms (Xbox One, PS4, PC), which means that The Division had the biggest beta of any new IP this generation. The previous record holder was the summer 2014 beta for Destiny , which engaged about 4.6 million players.

Beta participants spent about 5 hours on average roaming the streets of New York, and around 2 of those hours were spent in the Dark Zone. Half of you went rogue while in the Dark Zone, meaning that you either killed another player, or tried to. I went rogue by accident; I was roaming around with a random group of three, and when we engaged a group of enemy NPCs, one person in our group sprinted in front of me while I was firing. Half of my magazine went into his back, I went rogue, and everyone turned on me and killed me. Hopefully Ubisoft develops a system that allots some measure of forgiveness for accidental friendly fire. At any rate, Ubisoft is obviously really pleased with the feedback it’s been getting and The Division releases to high expectations on March 8.
