Overkill Announces Payday 2 Ultimate Edition

Overkill Announces Payday 2 Ultimate Edition

Overkill’s DLC structure for Payday 2 has not sat well with fans. It’s expensive and very piecemeal, making the more dedicated fans feel like the overall cost of the game has gone up. However, Overkill is taking a new approach, nuking everything and relaunching Payday 2 as Payday 2 Ultimate Edition .

Here’s the skinny. Starting as of yesterday, all Payday 2 DLC is 85% off. That brings the combined total of all DLC down from whatever craziness it was down to about $30. This sale will last until June 8, at which point the purchasable DLC will disappear forever! In its stead, Payday 2 will shift to the Payday 2 Ultimate Edition that includes everything.

New players will be able to buy the whole deal for $45, and previous players will be charged an upgrade fee which will vary based on how much DLC each player already owns. (No specifics are available yet.) Also notable is some upcoming DLC, the Ethan and Hila character pack, and a few other items are excluded from this deal. Otherwise, Overkill states further updates to Payday 2 will be free going forward. The game will be supported at least until October 2018.

Furthermore, Payday 2 Ultimate Edition is currently a Steam-only bundle. Overkill says that Payday 2 players on console will receive some sort of news going forward as more content comes out, and that Payday 2 is also in development for Nintendo Switch. Payday 3 is also currently in pre-production.
