Overwatch’s Next Animated Short Premiers Next Thursday

Overwatch’s Next Animated Short Premiers Next Thursday

Overwatch was being compared, visually, to Disney’s Pixar films before it launched. This was due not only to its aesthetic and generally bright, friendly color palette, but also to the quality and tone of its CG animated shorts. Blizzard’s developers are masters of storytelling, and the cinematic cut-scenes in their games have always been world-class. Though there is no single-player campaign or story mode in Overwatch, the characters and game world feel very coherent and alive thanks to a series of short films that focus on individual characters and their backstories.

We haven’t seen any new shorts since the game released, but that’s about to change. The next Overwatch animated short is coming next Thursday, and will focus on Bastion’s origin story. The short, titled The Last Bastion, “follows the forgotten battle automaton as it unexpectedly reactivates after laying dormant in the wilderness for over a decade. Fascinated by its unfamiliar surroundings, the curious omnic begins to investigate, but quickly discovers its core combat programming may have a different directive.” The video will air at 9AM PT at Blizzard’s Gamescom booth, and will be streamed online at the same time, so don’t miss it!
