The Phantasy Star series is known by some to have the best 8-bit RPGs ever in its catalog. Originally released for the Sega Master System in 1987, the series is still popular today with its Phantasy Star Online spinoff. Phantasy Star IV is an RPG developed for the Sega Genesis. It was released in Japan in 1993 before coming to the rest of the world in 1995. This title is the final game of the original Phantasy Star series and concludes the story of the Algol Star System. The game was received positively with critics praising the gameplay but the game received criticism for its storytelling and graphics. The game currently sits at 8.7 on Metacritic.
The Premise of Phantasy Star IV
Taking place 1,000 years after Phantasy Star II, the game picks up after the Great Collapse. The planet Motavia has regressed to its original desert climate as its biosphere-controlling devices begin to fail. It’s up to hunters Alys Brangwin and Chaz Ashley to save the day. The game has many mechanics from previous releases in the series. It consists of turn-based combat, overworld exploration, and character customization. This gameplay loop is common among RPGs of the 8-bit era. Phantasy Star IV introduced combination techniques to the series.

Phantasy Star IV Cheats
Music Test – Complete the game, and then press B at the ”Start/Continue/Erase” screen.
Level 99 Glitch – If you ever happen to get a character to reach level 99, this odd glitch will occur. Instead of putting a level cap, when you reach level 99 all of your characters will be leveled down to around 40~50. And every time you should go up a level, your character will go down another level. Although your stats screen will still say you are level 99.
