Plants vs. Zombies’ on PC Not Just a Port

Aside from shooter Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare being a weird concept to wrap our heads around in first place, there’s one major detail you should know: the PC version is NOT just a port.

This is according to creative director Justin Wiebe, who recently spoke about the upcoming PopCap release. “It’s not a port. We have so many hardcore PC gamers on our team that live and breathe PC. So everything from our UI to how the mouse-driven controls are going to work, everything has been looked at from PC gamers’ point of view. PC gamers are amazing gamers and we need to make sure that it’s going to satisfy them and what they’re looking for from a shooter on PC.” He says.

Naturally, when you move from the guaranteed compatibility of the consoles to the PC format, you have to contend with hardware issues. While most new PCs will have enough horse power to churn it out, some gamers with older rigs might wonder if their out of luck with Plants’. While the game has medium range recommended requirements, here is a quick rundown of the absolute minimum you’ll need to run the title on desktops:

  • OS: Windows 7/8 64bit
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.0 GHz
  • Memory: 4GB RAM
  • Hard Drive: 15 GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA 8800GT, AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5750
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
  • DirectX: 10.0+
  • Input: Keyboard, Mouse or Dual Analog Gamepad

A next-gen PS4 version will run the title at 1080p/60fps in a release currently slated for August.
