PlayStation 4 Console Sales Reach 7 Million Worldwide

Sony Computer Entertainment announced on Wednesday, April 16 that, as of Sunday, April 6, the company has sold over 7 million units of PlayStation 4 consoles around the world.

Not only that, but PlayStation 4 titles are also selling strong, with more than 20.5 million copies sold in both retail stores and through digital downloads worldwide. What’s more, due to the consoles inherent “SHARE” feature, more than 135 million shares have been captured via the DualShock 4 controller as of March 31. PlayStation 4 broadcasts via Twitch and Ustream have also amounted up to 4.9 million gameplay broadcasts and nearly 90 million spectative sessions as of March 31 respectively.

It’s been recently rumored that the PlayStation 4 will receive backwards compatibility for PlayStation One and PlayStation 2 titles. PlayStation 4 console sales have also risen in the UK by 106 percent following the launch of InFAMOUS: Second Son , topping the Xbox One’s console sales in the UK of 96 percent following Titanfall .

Before the release of InFAMOUS: Second Son however, the Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 for four weeks in a row. Oddworld Inhabitants co-founder Lorne Lanning also discussed in a recent interview that the performance gap between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One is “ getting comparable. ” Read our Matt Walker’s review of the PlayStation 4 console here .
