PlayStation VR to Sell Hundreds of Thousands at Launch

PlayStation VR to Sell Hundreds of Thousands at Launch

PlayStation VR is here! The hype leading up to launch has been growing rapidly, and the early adopters aren’t going to be disappointed. The technology isn’t quite as advanced and the visuals are as sharp as what you’ll see with an Oculus Rift of HTC Vive, but this is a surprisingly capable and immersive piece of hardware. SCEE president Jim Ryan is really optimistic about sales, according to a recent interview with CNBC .

“We know from the data we have from pre-orders that the interest we have is significant,” he said, affirming that, at launch, he expects sales to be in the “many hundreds of thousands.” Sony anticipated demand would be high and planned its production accordingly. Even so, it’s looking to crank up production for the holiday season and early into 2017. “We have made decisions to further increase capacity at the back end of 2016 and into 2017, so there are going to be a lot of PlayStation VRs around the world, whether that’s enough to satisfy the demands of the market, we’ll see.”

You can snag your PlayStation VR today for $400 USD. There is also a $500 bundle that comes with the new PlayStation Camera, two Move controllers, and a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds .
