Previously Approved Metal Gear Fan Remake Shuts Down

As reported by Joystiq (via Metal Gear Informer ) on Monday, August 18, Metal Gear series developer Konami has had to shut down the efforts of a fan-made remake of the original Metal Gear game that was released back in 1987.

The fan-made remake of the game was also reportedly said to feature David Hayter, the voice behind Solid Snake throughout the majority of the Metal Gear Solid games, as was suggested in the remake’s presentation trailer.

According to Metal Gear Informer, the producer of the remake, from Outer Heaven Productions, the group behind the effort, told the website that “ the guys over at Konami couldn’t agree on a decision so [they] had no choice but to shut us down.

Strangely, back in early June Konami approved the production of a remake of the original Metal Gear , with the caveat being that  Outer Heaven would not make any money from their project or utilize and copyrighted material.

Specifically, ” [they] cannot use our copyrighted material to promote a product [they] are selling or making any profit from. ” As long as the project remains as a non-profit fan project, Outer Heaven was free to develop the remake.

As it currently stands, all there is to show of Outer Heaven’s efforts is the aforementioned presentation trailer, which can be viewed via the embedded video below.

We’ll bring you more Metal Gear related news should further information reach our ears.
