Original Metal Gear Remake Approved by Konami

Original Metal Gear Remake Approved by Konami

The origins of the Metal Gear Solid franchise began way back in the merry year of 1987 with Metal Gear , a stealth game that initially released on the MSX2 (an old-ass computer system that was designed to create unified standards among computer hardware and architecture).

Well, thanks to a team of modders, thematically named “Outer Heaven”, there’s now a remake of the original Metal Gear in the works, a mod that will utilize a version of Valve’s Alien Swarm engine. What’s more, as revealed in an email interview with Kotaku, the team have been given the green light of approval by Metal Gear’s developer Konami.

However, Konami’s caveat is that the mod team can’t make any money from their project or utilize and copyrighted material. Specifically, [they] cannot use our copyrighted material to promote a product [they] are selling or making any profit from. ” As long as the project remains as a non-profit fan project, Outer Heaven is free to develop the remake.

With Konami’s approval, the team have upped their production efforts and are now looking for potential candidates to help in the game’s development process. If you’re interested in taking part in a project, Outer Heaven are looking for the following:

  • Cutscene Animator (Will be working alongside the cutscene artist in a similar style to Peace Walker )

  • Cutscene Artist (In the style of Yoji Shinkawa/Ashley Wood)

  • Storyboard Artist

  • Sound Effects Artist

  • Composer

  • Voice Actor/Actress

You can visit the team’s mod page for further details.
