Movies based on video games have typically had a hard time at the box office and with movie critics alike. While the recently released Prince of Persia: Sands of Time film did meet with a healthy dose of criticism, that didn’t stop it from becoming the highest grossing video game-based film in history according to Gamespot’s Eddie Makuch.  With the film pulling in around $293 million globally, the film more than made back its estimated budget of $200 million while also rocketing past the previously most successful video game based film, Tomb Raider, which came in at $274 million globally. As I weep for the future of video game based movies, I continue to hope that we’ll one day see a film based on a video game that not only makes money, but also doesn’t make you want to walk out of the theater prematurely. |
