Dead Island Gets A Movie Deal

Dead Island Gets A Movie Deal

None

As gamers, we appreciated Dead Island for its interesting RPG-inspired take on survival horror. As zombie fans, on the other hand, we were enamored by the idea of surviving a zombie apocalypse on a resort island. It looks like Hollywood also sees potential in Dead Island, as the game has recently acquired a movie deal.

Lionsgate Studios has optioned the film rights to the game, and oddly enough, it wasn’t even the game itself that sold Lionsgate on the movie deal, but rather the trailer. The trailer got ten million views in two days and was called one of the world’s best commercials by Adweek. In fact, it is the commercial that Lionsgate will be basing the movie off of, not the game itself.

Right now the Sean Daniel Company will lead the production. The company is owned, appropriately enough, by Sean Daniel, who produced movies such as The Mummy , Tombstone , and Dazed and Confused . No director or cast is attached at this time.

Well, we have movies based on comics, books, and even board games now, why not base a movie on a commercial? Still, here’s a word of warning for Dead Island fans: since the commercial is the “primary creative inspiration” for this movie, we doubt the director will even play the game before making the movie. So get ready for another crappy video game adaptation.

Then again, considering Sean Daniel’s track record, this could be a hilarious excuse to see Brendan Fraser get torn apart by zombies.
