PS4 System Upgrade 3.5 Brings Big Features

PS4 System Upgrade 3.5 Brings Big Features

The time has come! The PS4 system update goes live tomorrow, and your shiny new firmware version 3.5 is bringing with it a slew of requested (and some not requested) features. First up are a few simple, but very welcome, social features. Now you can toggle an option to see when your friends sign on. Scheduled events will make setting up a group to play a snap: simply set up a time you’d like to play a certain game, give a few details in the description, and then send your friends an invitation. When the designated time rolls around, anyone who accepted the invite will automatically swept into your party and you can get going. You can even post events to community boards. Of course, if you “literally can’t even right now,” you can always appear offline so everyone will leave you alone.

The most exciting feature though, by far , is the ability to livestream to DailyMotion. Just kidding, no one cares about that. The coolest feature is the ability to play your PS4 games remotely from your PC or Mac. Remote play is only compatible with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, and if you’re on a Mac, OS X 10.10 and OS X 10.11. There are a few options for resolution and frame rate, but the default will be 540p at 30 fps. Remote play on the Vita, while super convenient, can be spotty if you don’t have an incredible connection, so we’ll see how it fares on PC.
