Capcom had hinted that Wii fans would be very happy very soon. We assumed this meant a new Resident Evil title was in the works, being eveloped specifically for the platform. As it turns out, a new Resident Evil game is, in fact, on its way to the Nintendo Wii, according to Famitsu, as picked up by IGN. According to the aticle, the game will be a sequel of sorts to the 2007 lightgun / on-rails shooter Umbrella Chronicles. However, the game is not going to be called Umbrella Chronicles 2 because the Umbrella Corporation is apparently out of the picture – a new entity will be filling in as enemy. Nevertheless, The Dark Chronicles will take place in RE2’s Racoon City on September 29, 1998. It was also revealed that players will take the reigns as Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy. This undoubtedly points to an emphasis on multiplayer functionality. Apparently, the game is about “35% complete and is without a final release date.”
