RUMOR: Project Cafe Revealed Early?

None

Eurogamer has recently posted a strange video entitled “Private Presentation of ‘Project Café’ by a Video Games Editor.” This fuzzy, silent, shaky-cam footage appears to have been taken during a closed-room presentation of Nintendo’s new console. The presentation goes over the console’s innovative and controversial new controller, as well as the design of the console itself. Although you kind of have to squint to make sense of the poor photo quality, the slides shown do reveal some new info.

The diagram of the new controller reveals a combination of a Gamecube controller and a Classic Controller pro. The body of the controller is rather large and is held by two thick handles on either side. There is an analog stick in the upper left and lower right portion of the controller, building out of the sides ever so slightly on contoured circles, like the GC controller. The lower left of the controller sports a d-pad, and the upper right sports a familiar cross-shaped button layout stretched horizontally to spread the buttons apart. In the middle of the controller, there is a six-inch HD touch screen, and below that are familiar Wii-style plus, minus, and home buttons. On the bottom of the controller, there appears to be a jack of some sort, much like you would find on an Xbox controller. A later slide has arrows pointing to what we can only assume would be the shoulder triggers, and a third arrow pointing to where the onboard camera should be.

Unfortunately, the footage was too blurry to make out any of the details of the console itself, but this controller info should be enough to hold us over for a few more weeks. Is this real, or is it just a joke at Nintendo’s expense?
