RUMOR: Sony Considering A TV Service?

RUMOR: Sony Considering A TV Service?

None

If anyone has the foundation to launch a new TV service, it’s Sony. They’ve been selling PS3’s, Internet-capable TVs, and Blu-ray players for years now. All of these systems could potentially serve as a conduit to some Sony-branded streaming service (or some such other delivery method).

Well, it sounds like Sony is starting to test the waters on just such a service. Recently, the Japanese company has approached several large media organizations about negotiating the rights to offer their channels via a streaming service in the U.S.

Obviously, this could be another gigantic threat to television and cable companies, but it might also be a game-changing tactic that could keep them from losing market shares to companies like Hulu and Netflix.

Either way, the whole thing is still the planning stage, so there’s really no telling what will end up materializing at this point.
