Skyward Sword Won’t Be Dual-Platform

Skyward Sword Won’t Be Dual-Platform

None

Zelda fans remember well that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess started as a GameCube project and was quickly ported over to the Wii when the new console was on the horizon. Now, a new Zelda is set to come out—The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword—and the Wii U is set to come out next year. So this leaves fans wondering if history will repeat itself.

Well, according to Nintendo’s favorite suit and tie, Reggie Fils-Aime, it won’t. He was straight-out asked whether or not there will be a dual console release of Skyward Sword, and he simply denied it. Plainly put, the game was designed to be played with a Wii controller along with Wii motion plus, so there’s no real reason to adjust the game to work with the Wii U’s buttons and touch screen.

Not that this particularly matters in the long run. The Wii U is rumored to be totally backward compatible, and it uses all those Wiimotes you still have lying around. So if you want to play Skyward Sword on your brand new shiny Wii U, you can. It will just look exactly like it did on the Wii.

Of course, this leaves us still wondering about the HD Zelda footage shown during Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference this year. Is there a Wii U Zelda game on the horizon, or was that simply a tech demo with a special cameo appearance by one of Nintendo’s most-beloved characters?
