Sledgehammer Turns Off Public Headquarters in COD: WWII

Sledgehammer Turns Off Public Headquarters in COD: WWII

Call of Duty: WWII launched over the weekend, and the server situation immediately crumbled into a fine, powder-like dust. Many players had issues accessing the game online all weekend to some degree or another. In order to patch the problems up and get people online, Sledgehammer Games made a few temporary adjustments, including one that put a serious damper on a key feature in the game.

Headquarters, Call of Duty: WWII ’s new online hub, is meant to be a big tool for social interactivity between players, along with a house for additional play modes such as 1v1 combat. It also houses leaderboards and other unique features. Unfortunately, this feature caused the most stress on the servers.

Sledgehammer released a statement saying that, for now, the public aspect of Headquarters has been turned off. By default, Headquarters is a ghost town. If you do grow tired of running around by yourself, Call of Duty: WWII does retain the ability to invite friends over. Sledgehammer insists that Headquarters will go back to normal soon, and that leaderboard data is still being captured even if it can’t be displayed at the moment.

Sledgehammer also fixed a bug that was hitting some players and resetting their player rank. Rank is a huge part of Call of Duty online, tying with it various equipment rewards. Sledgehammer says the issue was isolated and fixed, and compensation will be coming to affected players soon.
