After a joint Mario-Sonic venture was announced earlier this week, tempers began flaring from fans of the two video game icons.
Mario fans dressed as, well, Mario and met outside Sega’s headquarters with signs that degraded and demonized the blue hedgehog. “What an insult to Mario,” one particularly round plumber commented. “He should never even be compared to Sonic. Never. He’s so much better.”
After hearing about the rally, Sonic fans came out full force to counter-protest. Verbal arguments turned into fist fights, and eventually the police were called. Even tear gas didn’t break up a few of the fan fights, and many were arrested.
“We arrested twenty-three Marios and nineteen Sonics,” police reported. “I don’t know what that says for which character is better, but we at least know who is more peaceful.”
