Sonic Comes Speeding Down The Raceway

None

Sonic the Hedgehog is all about being fast and furious. So, why not a racing game? SEGA clearly had this thought back on the Saturn, when they released Sonic R, and on the Game Gear with the Sonic Drift titles and then, most recently, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. Those latter games made the odd choice of putting the fastest hedgehog on land, a creature who could travel at super-sonic velocities using his legs, behind the wheel of a car.

Such is the case with SEGA’s newest racer, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which features Sonic and a cast of SEGA All-Stars. It promises not only land racing, but also air and water (though, last I checked, Sonic has difficulty with that element).

The last game was a decent kart racer, though this one appears to be a little more on the Diddy Kong Racing end of things, given its multiple elements and styles of traversal. Details are scarce, but the game’s press release does indicate that, beyond transforming vehicles, the all-star meter will now encourage daring and stylish driving.

Confirmed systems include the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, 3DS, Vita and PC, all in late 2012.
