Sony PS5 Prices Could Be Greatly Influenced by Parts’ Prices

When it comes to the PlayStation 5 price, Sony hasn’t said anything definitive on the matter. However, there has been plenty of speculation about how much it could be costing the company to make each one, which would in turn have an effect on how much the systems will cost for everyone else. Supposedly, Bloomberg has sources that say the components are costing more than expected.

Bloomberg tossed around some possible explanations for suggestions from unnamed sources about a possible price hike. One reason for a possibly high price could be related to the PS5 flash memory the system would use. It would need both DRAM and NAND, which are getting expensive. Allegedly, a supposed camera peripheral was scrapped due to the unavailabilty of DRAM. The system also supposedly has a cooling system that could get costly.

The analysis and supposition-laden article also went over a number of factors that could contribute to the PS5 going up or down. One bit of information suggested that the situation with the flash memory and cooling system could put the price up to $450 to make on Sony’s end. Another bit of insight suggested Sony could decide to sell it at a loss, depending on the Xbox Series X price. Again, as speculation, it is unknown what it could eventually cost.

The PlayStation 5 is set to debut for the 2020 holiday season. So is Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, its primary competition.
