Spider-Man 2 Dev Kickstarts Energy Hook

Spider-Man 2 Dev Kickstarts Energy Hook

A surprising licensed classic, Spider-Man 2, based on the movie of the same name, drew critical acclaim and built a sizable fanbase almost exclusively on the strength of its webswinging mechanic. Using a physics engine that required Spidey’s webs to latch onto actual level geometry, it was challenging to master, but incredibly rewarding once one became proficient. Far more entertaining than holding down a button and tilting the stick forward.

The man behind that mechanic, Jamie Fristrom, has launched a Kickstarter for his newest game, Energy Hook, which, at its most basic level, is the webswinging of Spider-Man 2 taken to its logical extreme. Centered around wall-running, swinging, and hopefully mid-air tricking, Energy Hook is further notable because its Kickstarter goal was only one dollar. It has passed that tens of thousands of times over, now sitting comfortably at over $35,000. As with any other Kickstarter worth its salt, there are incentives for those who pledge certain amounts, including copies of the game, t-shirts, and, at the highest levels, elements of the game named after you or executive producer credits.
