Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a 2008 action-adventure game developed and published by LucasArts. While the core platforms for the game were PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, scaled-down versions were released for Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PSP, and mobile, with a Switch version released years after too.
The game serves as a bridge between the Star Wars prequel and original trilogies. However, it is now considered to be “Legends”, meaning it’s no longer an official canon story.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Premise
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed puts you in third-person control of Starkiller, a powerful Force-sensitive on a mission to hunt down the Jedi survivors of Order 66. By using your lightsaber and your Force powers, you’ll cut through legions of enemies to complete your goals. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed throws plenty in your way, challenging you with sheer quantity, as opposed to them actually being difficult to fight individually.
Combat is the main mechanic here, with a great combo system that rewards you for combining your lightsaber attacks and Force abilities in new and interesting ways. With an amazing physics system in play, you’ve never felt more like a real Force user. You gain XP for every kill, which you can use to upgrade your powers in any order you like. Finding hidden artifacts along the way serve the same purpose, giving Starkiller a great sense of progression throughout the game.
In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, you’ll fly to a number of familiar planets from the Star Wars universe, with a variety of biomes that change the way you’ll approach combat. Each planet has its own unique wildlife, much of which will be hostile toward you. This means you’re always thinking about how to face each encounter, as one wrong step could be your last.
Each version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has its own unique features. For example, the PlayStation 2 and PSP versions both feature additional Jedi trial levels on Coruscant. The PSP version has five exclusive levels that re-enact iconic duels throughout the Star Wars movies, and the Wii version has a duel mode that essentially turns the title into a fighting game.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Main Characters
One of the criticisms leveled toward the Star Wars franchise over the years is that it’s too small. All this galaxy, and we continue to see the same old planets and characters over and over again. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed does little to rectify the issue, with familiar faces such as Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Shaak Ti, and Bail Organa all featured.
They’re there to round out the supporting cast, but at its core, there are a few great characters new to the Star Wars lore that you’ll meet along the way. Here are the main characters of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed:
- Starkiller: Galen Marek, otherwise known as Starkiller, is the protagonist of the game and an individual extremely powerful in the Force. After being found as a child by Darth Vader, he’s raised by the Sith to become a fearsome Jedi hunter. Starkiller’s ambition grows alongside his power, with dreams of becoming Galactic Emperor.
- Juno Eclipse: Juno Eclipse is the love interest of Starkiller, as well as a pilot in the Galactic Empire. After being assigned to Starkiller’s company to hunt down the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy, the two grow close. When Starkiller defects to the Rebel Alliance, she’s arrested by affiliation, before he breaks her out of prison.
- Rahm Kota: A former Jedi Master, Kota went into hiding after Order 66. Blinded in a duel with Starkiller, he turns to drink after severing his connection to the Force. He is brought back to the fight after Starkiller turns to the light side. Kota then becomes a teacher for Starkiller throughout the game.
- Darth Vader: The legendary Sith Lord, and the villain to end all villains. He spends Star Wars: The Force Unleashed preparing Starkiller to become his new apprentice to overthrow Emperor Palpatine. He eventually betrays his protege, leading Starkiller toward forming the Rebel Alliance.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Titles in the Series
When it was first released, the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series was massively popular with fans of the wider franchise. Not since the Jedi Knight series had we seen such a fulfilling depiction of the Force power fantasy, and gamers were extremely impressed.
Despite strong sales for both releases, it was two and done for the series. Disney’s 2012 acquisition of Star Wars complicated matters, with the corporation handing over the responsibility for video games from the franchise over to EA. Unfortunately, EA wanted to go in another direction, meaning Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was dead in the water.
Fans would later get the next best thing, with the release of Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi series. It’s the closest thing we’ve got to a spiritual success to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and has been met with widespread critical acclaim.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Cheat Code FAQs
How Do You Save in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Without Cheats?
Normally, some of the cheat codes in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed totally disable the ability to save during gameplay. However, there’s one small workaround that you can do to bypass this.
First, enter your cheat codes. Then begin to play through a level until you reach an automatic save point. After this, die on purpose before exiting to the main menu. Hit “Continue” on the main menu, and you’ll reenter the level with your cheat codes still activated.
How Do You Use Cheat Codes in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed For Switch?
In the release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, you can enter the cheat codes from the main menu. However, the Nintendo Switch version is a little different.
First, you must beat the prologue, after Darth Vader discovers Galen Marek on Kashyyyk. After this, you should have access to your ship. When you’re there, go to the “Extras” menu. You will now have the option to enter cheat codes in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
What Is The Code For All Lightsabers in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed?
The HURRIKANE cheat code is the one you need to unlock every lightsaber crystal in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
Beware – there is one unintended side effect to using HURRIKANE. By entering this cheat code, it will remove all of the lightsaber Holocrons from that specific save file, meaning you’ll no longer be able to collect them yourself. If you enjoy a collectathon, it might be worth giving this one a miss.
