Student Forbidden by Court from Playing Violent Games

Student Forbidden by Court from Playing Violent Games

A Chicago judge has ordered a 16-year-old high school student to stop playing violent video games after making a threat on Snapchat. The student, a sophomore at Lake Park High School, snapped a video of himself playing a shooting game, labeling the video with the text, “Ya’ll need to shut up about school shootings or I’ll do one.”

Another student reported this to police, and the kid was subsequently arrested. No weapons were found after searching his home, and he spent a night in a juvenile facility before appearing in court. There, he was charged with felony disorderly conduct, while his public defender defended the comment as a joke.

The judge, Robert Anderson, allowed the student to go home, but he is on indefinite home detention. His cell phone was ordered turned over to his parents, and he has been forbidden from violent video games.
