Super Mario Party River Survival Mode Revealed

Super Mario Party River Survival Mode Revealed

During gamescom 2018, Nintendo revealed a brand new mode in the upcoming Super Mario Party , a cooperative game variant in which all players work together instead of the usual cutthroat competition. It’s called River Survival and sees a group of four paddling together using the Joy-Cons, collecting balloons and working together in minigames to add more time to the clock.

In a gameplay demonstration put together by the folks at Nintendo UK, we see the mode in action. A group of four furiously paddle down a river together, and snag a balloon to start a challenging, cooperative minigame. A counter within the minigame ticks the group down from S to A-rank, which slightly decreases the amount of bonus time they win at the end. The time is added to the overall clock, which gives the group more time to get as far down the river as possible.

A minimap on the screen shows a progressing map of branching paths, and each path introduces new obstacles, such as a school of leaping Cheep Cheeps.

Super Mario Party arrives for the Nintendo Switch on October 5, 2018.
