System Shock Remake Gets 2020 Release Window

System Shock Remake Gets 2020 Release Window

It’s a sad day for “retro” horror fans, as the System Shock remake will not be releasing for another two years. It finished up a successful Kickstarter back in 2016, but had never received an official release date. Creators Nightdive Studios have now stated that quarter one of 2020 is the best window, as it gives them time to deliver what they promised.

Apparently the the last few years of the System Shock remake development has suffered from a “too many cooks in the kitchen” situation. All of the people working on creating the remake are fans of the original, and wanted to put their mark on history. Too many of these “imprints” were integrated over the years, which lead to the project being something completely different from the original. Nightdive’s business development director Larry Kuperman said that this version of the game wasn’t bad in any way, it just wasn’t System Shock .

Thus, the next two years will provide the team with time to get their game back to its roots. These changes have attracted new funding from publishers according to Kuperman. So there shouldn’t be any financial problems with Nightdive. Aside from moving the project closer to the original System Shock , Nightdive also wants to deliver on all that they have promised Kickstarter backers. So System Shock won’t be seeing the light of day until at least 2020.
