Team Of Fans Makes Tournament Worthy Dragon Ball Z Fighting Game

One thing that has remained constant across Namco Bandai’s series of Dragon Ball Z fighting games, is that none of them were tournament worthy. The gameplay was shallow and the fighting system was very mashy, focusing more on flash and spectacle than strategy. Well a few fans have decided that this is doing a disservice to the Dragon Ball Z name, and so they have come together to create Hyper Dragonball Z .

Hyper Dragonball Z is a 2D fighter, much in the vein of Street Fighter or Marvel vs. Capcom . It has a lot of traditional 2D fighting game mechanics, including normal attack chains, cancels, launchers and the like. It has a very interesting system, which includes EX moves, juggle limits, and a lot of other DBZ centric stuff like Beam Clashes and Punch Rushes. As of now, the game is made using custom sprites, and a combination of English voice clips from the show, with fan voice actors stepping in to fill in the blanks. It’s an incredible production that is getting a lot of positive feedback from the fighting game community. You can watch the official trailer here, and even download a fully playable demo complete with five characters to try out.
