Mysterious Murasame Castle Summary
The Mysterious Murasame Castle is a Famicom Disk System game. Developed by Nintendo and released in 1986. It was based upon fantasy Japan, during the Edo period of the nation’s history. For reference, the Edo period was between 1603 and 1868. It had a top-down adventure style, similar to the Legend of Zelda series. So much so, that it could be considered a “sister” to the first Legend of Zelda. Despite having only one game in the series, it is worth noting that there is an interesting legacy behind it.
Fuji TV, for example, developed a live-action drama that was loosely based on the game, and the main character of the game, Takamaru, appeared as a sticker in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. In addition, these characters also made an appearance in Samurai Warriors 3, and that is oddly considered canon in the series.
So, with this in mind, it was met with positive sales. So much While it did take over 20 years to make it to the West on the 3DS, it was a welcomed addition to the Nintendo Library.
Mysterious Murasame Castle Premise
In the Edo Period of Japan, on a stormy night, the Murasame castle, along with four others, was seized by a demonic force. Previously, the only curious thing about the Murasame castle was the statue located in its center. But on that stormy night, a mysterious golden object fell onto the castle. Shrieks arise from the castle, and now, four daimyos, or lords, have been given control over the surrounding castles. Upon hearing these strange happenings, the Shogun, or King of the land, sends the samurai apprentice Takamura to investigate the castle. As such, Takamura must infiltrate each of the castles, and then free them of their demonic influence.
But what he finds at the end of each castle is a lord ready and willing to fight him. Are they brainwashed? Possessed? Or are they fighting for their own free will? The answer is unclear, but the only truth can be found with Takamaru’s blade.
Mysterious Murasame Castle Main Characters
- Takamaru. The main character. A courageous young lad who seeks to free the land from the demonic invasion. He’s the star of a special mode in Samurai Warriors 3.
- Murasame. The monstrous lord of the Murasame castle. Whether or not it’s the original Murasame remains to be seen. They also make an appearance in Samurai Warriors 3!
- Lady Momosame. The lady of Momsame castle. She is a pale, ghostly woman. Like her lord, and the others on this list, she makes an appearance in Samurai Warriors 3. She wields lightning and is arrogant to her core.
- Lord Akasame. A large, armored man who wears red armor. Scary!
- Lord Ryokusame. The most “human” looking one out of the four lords. In Samurai Warriors, he appears as a red-skinned man with bright white hair, while in the original game, he appears to be an older man with a shaved head. Funny how their appearance can change!
- Lord Aosame. The last lord Takamaru must face before Murasame. He is an ice-type enemy and is the one who enslaved the townspeople to serve him and Murasame.
