If you are looking to pick up your own portable, Android-based gaming machine, you are in luck. The Nvidia Shield is now available for pre-orders. While the Shield was originally slated to go on pre-order today, Nvidia actually decided to allow customers to start pre-ordering the console last Friday.
The Shield can play games in two different ways. It can either run Android-based games on its own firmware, or it can stream games from a PC. PAX East showed the Shield running games such as Borderlands 2 and Skyrim without missing a beat. Nvidia also said that the Shield can be used as a controller for other consoles, though console support hasn’t yet been officially been announced. It would be pretty cool to be able to stream a PS4 or Xbox 720 game to your Shield’s monitor.
