The PlayStation Network’s Getting Two-Step Verification

The PlayStation Network’s Getting Two-Step Verification

People who like a little extra security when it comes to their accounts and private information will be pleased to know Sony is finally catching up to Microsoft in one area. The PlayStation Network is going to be getting two-step verification. That means when someone logs into their account, they’ll have the option to get a second confirmation to continue the log-in process.

The move to offer two-step verification came up yesterday, after PlayStation 3 firmware 4.80 was released. People who didn’t have the right information when logging in received a message that said, “If 2-step verification is active, you must enter a device setup password into the [Password] field. Check your mobile phone for a text message about your Sony Entertainment Network account.” A Sony representative then told Polygon , “In order to further safeguard our users and their accounts, we are preparing to offer a 2-step verification feature.”

A launch date for the PlayStation Network’s two-step verification option hasn’t been revealed yet, but it can’t arrive too soon. This security feature is a huge help, and Xbox Live has offered it since 2013. It’s good to see the company finally stepping up.
