The PS4 Outsells Xbox One on eBay

The PS4 Outsells Xbox One on eBay

So we know how well the PS4 and the Xbox One sold on legit markets. Both consoles sold over one million units since lauch, and the “console war” is basically neck and neck. But what about secondary markets? We all know that one of the easiest ways to make money is to pick up a launch console and immediatley post it on eBay for a higher price. When the PS3, Xbox 360, and more importantly the Wii launched, eBay snipers were selling consoles for thousands of dollars. So which console had more second-hand buyers? Which one profitted off the black market the most?

According to eBay, the PS4 won the day with nearly 10,000 consoles being sold via eBay on launch weekend. The Xbox One only came in at 7,000 eBay sales during its launch weekend. What’s actually somewhat interesting about this figure is that the PS4 is currently only available in North America. It’s unclear whether or not this held back the PS4’s black market sales as fewer consoles were available, or boosted them as there was higher demand in non U.S. territories. The average sale price of a PS4 was $590. EBay hasn’t revealed what the average selling price of an Xbox One is.

So while it appears as if more people want to purchase the PS4 from eBay than the Xbox One, remember that this is just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of consoles that have been sold legitimately. Really, this is one of the most even “console wars” that we have seen yet.
