The SNES Is Getting a New Fighter

The SNES Is Getting a New Fighter

Here’s something you don’t see every day. The Super Nintendo is getting a new game. There’s a developer out there creating a 2D game from scratch and preparing a physical copy for release. Announced at the Hong Kong Retro Game Expo 2016, former SNK staff who prepared King of Fighters ‘98, KOF 2001, KOF 2002, and Kizuna Encounter are working on Unholy Night . It’s an entirely new, sprite-based fighter.

Details on Unholy Night are slim. However, we do know it should be released in February 2017. It will be released on 32MB cartridges, so you’ll need a Super Nintendo or equivalent system to play it. It will be compatible with old school fightsticks, with the demo at the Hong Kong Retro Game Expo 2016 actually using two of them. So far, it looks like there will be six playable characters, and the demo had quite a bit of English text.

This looks like the kind of game you buy just because it’s a Super Nintendo game coming out in 2017. It’s amazing, really. Here’s hoping it’s easy to buy worldwide!
