The Week in Review & Rumor Round-up: Quantic Dreams May Go Multiplatform, Sony and Nintendo Battle Piracy, Microsoft Announces a New Bundle, and the PlayStation Turns Fifteen

None

The Week in Review news piece is a weekly article that summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week.

While Quantic Dreams is probably best known for their PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain, the developer is still contemplating going multiplatform in the future. David Cage stated “Now that we’re established why are we limiting ourselves to one share of the market when we can reach more. There are pros and cons and it’s not an easy decision.” Although, he followed it up saying “We’re really thankful of Sony’s support and the relationship we have because there are very few publishers that would have supported Heavy Rain the way they supported us.”

By now we’ve all heard about the PS3 jailbreak incident that has been making the headlines all week. Spurred by this incident, Sony has released a new firmware that will disable the exploit being used to turn the PS3 into piracy heaven. Nintendo also got into the firmware piracy battle this week, releasing new firmware for both the Wii and DSi. The new firmware for the Wii has eliminated even more of the exploits used to pirate games and make homebrew channels, while the DSi’s firmware has disabled many of the commonly used flash carts used to pirate games on the system.

With the impending release of Kinect, Microsoft chose this week to announce a new hardware bundle that would also include the peripheral. For those who want to purchase their redesigned Xbox 360 with the Kinect but want more than 4GB of memory, you’re in luck. The newly announced $400 bundle will include a redesigned 250GB Xbox 360, Kinect, and a copy of Kinect Adventures. However, if you are interested in this new bundle you better move fast as it is listed as a “special edition” and will only be sold “while supplies last.”

What do you get the console that led to the system that only does everything for its fifteenth birthday? In the case of the original PlayStation, the answer is absolutely nothing. This is because Sony is the one handing out the presents, with free themes for the PS3 and PSP, a decorative PlayStation ornament for use in Home, and a weekly sale on select PS1 Classics on PSN. Those interested will also be able to pick up a digital copy of Super Rub A Dub for fifty percent off through the twentieth.

That’s all for this week, be sure to check back next week.
