A recent press release from THQ claims the company will be shifting its focus toward strong core titles and getting out of the “kids’ licensed video games” market. The success of franchises such as Saints Row, UFC Undisputed, Warhammer 40k, and Darksiders has motivated the company to appeal more exclusively to the core gamer market. Saints Row: The Third alone has shipped 3.8 million units globally and, according to the press release, they are expecting it to ship between five and six million units in the game’s lifetime. Part of this “re-alignment” process will involve exiting relationships with licensed entertainment companies. THQ was previously responsible for the release of such licensed titles as The Fairly Odd Parents, Cars, Finding Nemo, Kung-Fu Panda, My Little Pony Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow, and more. THQ will continue to sell some of these previously released titles even after their ties are cut.
