Developer Drool announced yesterday that its debut game, Thumper , would be releasing imminently. Originally the game was planned to drop on October 13, but the devs thought that an early release would be a great surprise for fans who have been waiting years to get their hands on the game. You can find it now on the PlayStation Store and Steam. It will be compatible with PS VR right away, and PC VR compatibility is coming later this year. So what is Thumper?
In the devs’ own words, “Thumper is rhythm violence: classic rhythm-action, blistering speed, and brutal physicality. You are a space beetle. Brave the hellish void and confront a maniacal giant head from the future.” The controls are very simple; you’ll only use one button and a joystick, and the game features some very primitive call-and-response mechanics. If you’re a long-time rhythm game fan, you understand that simple call-and-response gameplay can lead to incredibly complex and satisfying challenges.
