Square Enix recently announced that Tomb Raider has sold 3.4 million copies thus far. They’ve also unloaded 3.6 million copies of Hitman: Absolution. These might seem like really solid sales figures to you and I, but Square is a little disappointed
Square was hoping to sell around 5 million copies of Tomb Raider and 4.5 million copies of Hitman: Absolution, but obviously fell short of their goals. While there is still time for both games to reach those figures, the numbers wouldn’t make it onto the appropriate fiscal calendar, because that ended on March 31 st .
It’s interesting to note that these numbers reportedly don’t include digital sales, which may or may not inch the figures closer to Square’s expectations. However, the numbers don’t lie. They live up to Square’s expectations. So, it’ll be interesting to see how this will affect future releases from Square Enix.
Will they continue to fund similar titles? Or will they just keep making Kingdom Hearts remakes and spin-offs.
