Twitch Donates $1 Million to St. Jude

Twitch Donates $1 Million to St. Jude

Twitch and Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo managed to do a lot of good for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on December 23, 2019. DrLupo was holding a 24-hour long Build Against Cancer live stream, with the goal being to raise $2 million for the charity. While it initially seemed like he was only going to just pass $1 million for the hospital, Twitch itself came in with a $1 million donation to bring the total up to over $2.3 million.

The Build Against Cancer stream involved DrLupo playing Fortnite for 24-hours straight for St. Jude. People who watched and donated could be entered into a raffle for prizes, get DrLupo to perform certain actions in the game, see his streams changed forever by having their name in his intro and outro, or influence his real life. For example, the $200,000 goal would have his wife teaching him to play The Sims and the $1 million goal reward was the opportunity to see him get to stream for a full day as Circuit Breaker.

Here is a video clip of the moment where DrLupo received the $1 million Twitch check for St. Jude’s.

Twitch wasn’t the only major donor during this DrLupo St. Jude’s stream. The top five donators also included a streamer named CCkun91, who kicked in, $37,777.77, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins with $30,000, State Farm Insurance with $25,000, and Tyler “Wildcat” Wine with $16,420.69.

This is the second time DrLupo has formed a major December charity stream for St. Jude’s, as he also held one in 2018. However, last year he only raised just over $600,000 for the hospital.

As a reminder, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital cares for children suffering from cancer. Families never receive a bill for treatment there. The cost to operate the hospital for one day is about $2.2 million.
