Ubisoft Removes From Dust DRM

Ubisoft Removes From Dust DRM

None

Ubisoft is pretty well-known for being rather harsh with their DRM. However, recently it seemed that they were turning over a new leaf. For example, they said that From Dust would not require an always-on internet connection. Needless to say, this made many indie gamers happy.

Then From Dust released on the PC, and it turned out to be not what was advertised. Originally, Ubisoft said that you would only need to be online while installing the game, while in reality, you had to be online every time you booted the game up. Originally, Ubisoft seemed entirely unapologetic for this DRM change. It was explained that there was some “confusion” over the DRM policy, and it didn’t appear as if the DRM policy would change any time soon.

Well, Ubisoft seems to have a conscience after all, as they are not only answering fan complaints but are going above and beyond the call of duty. Not only did they recently give that apology no one thought they would get, but they also said that a patch would be coming out that would remove all online authentication from the game.

From strict DRM to no DRM at all; now that’s progress!
