World of Warcraft Actor Says He’s Feeling Pressured

World of Warcraft Actor Says He’s Feeling Pressured

Bringing a World of Warcraft film to theaters in a way that both satisfies die-hard fans and draws in audiences at the ticket booth is no small feat. One actor involved talks about what he calls a “very specific world” and the pressures that come along with it.

Dominic Cooper, who’ll be appearing in the film in a yet-unknown role, acknowledges that this isn’t your ordinary adaptation. He reveals that WoW isn’t like a shooter or racing game (where you play and then forget about it when you’re done), but rather is an extension of who people are in some respects. Cooper says it “…really does have people who exist in that world and probably live more of their life in that world than they do in the real world, which is terrifying in itself.”

While no doubt up for the task, Cooper still maintains that no amount of acting chops could have prepared him for the weight of wanting to deliver the correct vision for the project (especially with gamers already having a pre-conceived notion of what they feel it should look like):

“…what that means is there have been people creating that world for many years and it’s got a very specific look…people have already made their minds up about who they are and what they mean to them. So that’s quite a lot of pressure, in that you feel obligated to give the people who have spent the majority of their life playing it what they expect for it.”

The film version of the hit MMO will premiere one year from now in theaters on March 16.
