Xbox One | Games Will Run at 1080p Over Time, Assures Microsoft Exec

As reported on Total Xbox , the director of development for Xbox, Boyd Multerer expects developers to achieve native 1080p resolution on the Xbox One over a period of time. According to him, it’s more of a question of how developers utilize the console’s GPU and ESRAM.

“I fully expect that to happen,” Multerer told Total Xbox. “The [graphics processing units] are really complicated beasts this time around.

The hardware is basically baked, and what comes next is people discovering better software techniques to take advantage of it, especially in the ordering of the data so it flows through all the caches correctly, and I think there’s a lot of opportunity there,” Multerer continued.

As for the console’s ESRAM, which is a piece of additional RAM that works along with the onboard 8Gb of RAM, he stressed that, “this is where tuning your data set becomes super important.”

Multerer states that, in the future, we can look forward to “fairly large improvements in GPU output as people really tune these data sets now to get maximum use out of their GPUs.”
