Developer Calls the Need to Justify Game Length a “Failure”

We’ve all heard the old adage regarding quantity vs. quality. This has been a hot button topic as of late in the game industry, leading to one developer speaking out regarding the recent Metal Gear controversy.

Massimo Guarini (Director of Shadows of the Damned ) had the following to say (via Twitter) regarding the matter: “When creators are forced to justify the length of a game, I think that’s one of the biggest failures of our industry”

We recently reported on the ruckus that the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has caused, which many expect players can completely blow through with one late night gaming session. With its price point varying across multiple platforms (via both digital and physical copies), many gamers are expressing frustration and feel the value is simply not there.

Guarini is not the only one defending the quality of shorter games, as Kojima Productions designer Jordan Amar also expressed his belief that the amount of time players spend with Metal Gear should not reflect how they view its quality.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be released on March 18 th , at which time gamers will determine just how important a longer play-time is. Be sure to come back here and leave your comments below and let us know how you feel!
