3DS Smash Bros. Will Have The Same Characters As The Wii U

3DS Smash Bros. Will Have The Same Characters As The Wii U

Were you concerned that the Nintendo 3DS version of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. would be a pared down companion to its Wii U big brother? Fret not. Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that every character present in the Wii U version will also be in the 3DS release, which he intends to have deliver “the same character experience on both devices.”

“Character experience” is both a broad and a specific term. Broad in that it doesn’t just refer to the characters themselves appearing, but seems to indicate that they should play the same and, thus, provide a nearly identical gameplay experience to what players on the Wii U will have. It’s specific, though, in that it in no way references the locales in which these battles will take place. The Wii U is a far more powerful device, and Sakurai has commented on the artistic challenges of crafting highly detailed stages for high definition visuals. These, obviously, will not translate down perfectly to the 3DS.

It may also have affected the potential appearance of SSBB levels in the game. It’s not a pipe dream, yet, but it’s something that definitely presents a challenge.
