A Game of Thrones RTS Gets Release Date

None

You know, I’m a bit disgruntled about the huge popularity of the Game of Thrones franchise. Everyone is telling me how cool it is right now, what with the HBO series and all, but I was reading George R. R. Martin’s Song of Fire and Ice when it was nothing more than a book. Posers, I say! Posers, the lot of you!

Now, I have all my gaming friends telling me that A Game of Thrones is awesome because it’s going to get a real-time strategy game version. It’s one of the few PC exclusives to come out this year, and is in development by Cyanide games, with a September 29 release date.

The game will model itself closer to Civilization or Rise of Nations than StarCraft, as players will be able to achieve more than just military conquest. They can also wage war on their opponents economically or diplomatically. Up to eight players can play all at once, each controlling a different royal family. Once again, this sounds cool and all, but read the books, people!

Of course, even in my salty frothing anger, this doesn’t mean I won’t be picking up the Collector’s Edition, which includes a map of Westeros and two pieces of concept art. Those will go right up on my wall, next to all my other Song of Fire and Ice Memorabilia.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not still angry about it.
